Incomplete drill holes produced by naticid snails are occasionally found in late Cenozoic gadid otoliths from the North Sea Basin. Among the Neogene otoliths found at Mill-Langenboom naticid drill holes are relatively common. Their occurrence is linked to strata that formed under reduced rates of sedimentation and/or that reflect non-sedimentation and erosion. The Upper Miocene–Upper Pliocene deposits at Mill-Langenboom (province of Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands) constitute a condensed sequence comprising most North Sea Basin stages of this interval from the Gramian to the end of the Pliocene, as demonstrated by index taxa amongst gadid otoliths, with a considerable hiatus between Miocene and Pliocene strata. ABSTRACT Anthracological studies are firmly advancing in the tropics during the last decades. The theoretical and methodological bases of the discipline are well established. Two different tectono-stratigraphic domains are recognised in the Cantabrian Mountains, Asturian-Leonese (Cantabrian Zone) and Palentian (Palentian Zone). The area under investigation belongs to the southern part of the Palentian Domain and attention is focused on the Upper Viséan to lowermost Bashkirian limestones at the village of La Lastra in northern Palencia. A new geological map of the Palentian Zone is accompanied by a more detailed map centred on La Lastra. The Barcaliente Limestone Formation (Serpukhovian to lowermost Bashkirian) occurs in the overturned limb of a recumbent anticline which constitutes the head of a south-verging major thrust unit, the Carrionas Thrust Sheet (Palentian Zone). Since the Last Glacial Maximum, the Rhone River, which is the most important source of freshwater and sediment to the western Mediterranean Sea, migrated in a north-westward direction during the rapid Deglacial and Early Holocene sea-level rise. During the phase of global high sea-level (Middle and Late Holocene), an overall eastward migration of the Rhone outlet, under natural and/or human influence, is recorded through several sediment accumulations confined along the inner shelf in the form of deltaic lobes. This article deals with biostratigraphy, palaeoecology and biogeography of the Late Oligocene/Early Miocene insectivore faunas from Anatolia. With the exception of the much younger fauna from Keseköy, all faunas contain the same insectivore species. Keseköy contains the same genera, but mostly different species. It has been suggested that insectivores are of limited stratigraphical use due to the longevity of the taxa. This seems to hold true for the Early Miocene faunas from Anatolia. Changes in the composition of the insectivore faunas are used to infer environmental changes. The present study reports upon the conodont faunas of the uppermost lower Viséan (Carrión unit) through the lower Serpukhovian (Peña unit) deep water Triollo section, Cantabrian Mountains, Palencia, Spain. The condensed succession of grey, laminate, nodular and cherty limestones with marl intercalations contains abundant and diverse conodont faunas. Three new species of Vogelgnathus, V. cantabricus, V. palentinus and V. triolloensis, as well as one new species and one new subspecies of Gnathodus, Gn. boogaardi and Gnathodus girtyi pyrenaeus Nemyrovska & Perret subsp. nov., are described. Crustacea (dynomenid crabs and cirripedes) from the upper Cenomanian-lower Turonian nearshore, shallow-water bioclastic limestones to marly siltstones found along the southern and eastern margins of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (BCB) are described. Crabs are rather rare in this area, and mostly restricted to fragmentary pereiopods, i.e., isolated claws or dactyli. The Miocene Pebas Formation from the section Santa Rosa de Pichana (Loreto, Peru) was investigated using a combination of analyses of sedimentary facies, molluscan communities and taphonomy, and stable isotopes of both entire shells and growth bands in bivalves. Three sequences, comprising a succession of transgressive, maximum flooding and regressive/prograding intervals, are documented. Molluscs are most common in the transgressive/highstand intervals and are almost absent in regressive/prograding intervals.
